Baggage allowance on Thai Airways


Depending on the flight destination, passengers follow different checked baggage allowances. Fares on Thai Airways and Thai Smile domestic flights:

Regardless of flight type and plane model, the size of 1 baggage bag must not exceed 158 cm (62 inches).

Zone decoding according to the system adopted by Thai Airways:

  • Zone 1 – Bangladesh, Cambodia, China (Kunming), Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur.
  • Zone 2 – Brunei, China (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou), Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan.

Hand luggage

Depending on the selected class of service, you can bring up to 2 pieces of hand baggage into the cabin:

Two bags can be taken by Royal Orchid Plus loyalty program members with Gold status or higher and Star Alliance loyalty program members with Gold status.

All passengers are allowed to take a number of personal items into the cabin:

  • Laptop in a case, tablet, clutch, handbag or purse measuring no more than 37.5 x 25 . 12.5 cm and weighing no more than 1.5 kg.
  • Cane or crutches necessary for the passenger to move due to health condition, disability or age.
  • Outer clothing, personal accessories, jewelry, jewelry, religious items, and books for reading.
  • Necessary childcare accessories and baby food in reasonable quantities and sizes.
Smart suitcases and bags with non-removable lithium-ion batteries, motors, external power supplies, GPS/GSM devices, with RFID, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth are prohibited in baggage. Such items may only be taken as hand luggage with the batteries removed.

It is prohibited to carry in your luggage or hand luggage:

  • Explosive and flammable substances, flammable liquids.
  • Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides, toxic and contagious substances and objects.
  • Radioactive materials (e.g., commercial isotopes), corrosives and other hazardous substances.
  • Alcohol in excess of authorized limits.
  • Medical electronic devices, batteries, external power supplies (with lithium content greater than 8 g and power output greater than 160 Wh).
  • Cartridges, bottles and aerosols containing compressed gas, fuel and fuel cartridges.
  • Travel gas stoves and cylinders containing flammable liquid substances.
  • Any mobility or mobility aid devices with non-removable or removable power sources must not be brought into the plane cabin.

Specific prohibited items:

  • Portable safes and other secure containers with smart devices and non-removable lithium-ion batteries.
  • Personal motorized vehicles with all types of motors.
  • Dry rations and prepared meals with self-heating, smokeless, and chemical heating components.
  • Any gas cylinders containing compressed oxygen (for diving or medical purposes). If medical oxygen is required, Thai Airways staff should be contacted.
  • Damaged batteries of any nature, including those inside personal electronic devices.
  • Any type of weapons and self-defense equipment, including tasers, gas canisters, firearms and traumatic weapons.

Animal transportation

Thai Airways allows all customers to travel with pets (cats, small rodents and dogs) provided they have a veterinary certificate of required vaccinations, passport and a container that meets all the requirements for air transportation of animals.

Container requirements:

  • be large enough for the animal to stand up, turn around and lie down.
  • be well ventilated and have a waterproof bottom.
  • the dimensions must not exceed the maximum allowed size of checked-in luggage.
Pets are considered checked baggage and will be charged at the appropriate fare based on weight together with the cage. Thai Airways does not carry pets on flights to Auckland, Denpasar, Dubai, Hong Kong and London and on return flights from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
Airbus A320 planes are not equipped with the necessary ventilation and climate control devices in the baggage compartment, so animals cannot be transported on flights served by these planes.

A number of dog breeds (e.g. all dumb-nosed dogs) are prohibited on Thai Airways flights. An incomplete list of such breeds:

  • Affenpinscher, American Bulldog, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Boston Terrier.
  • Boxer (all breeds), Brussels Griffon, Bull Terrier, Bulldog.
  • Cavalier Spaniel, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
  • Chinese pug, Chow Chow, Danish pug, English Toy Spaniel, English Bulldog.
  • Pekingese, Sharpei, Shinzu, Tibetan spaniel and all kinds of mastiffs.
